becoming familiar with home

In March 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, people in Germany were asked to keep a distance of 1.5 meters from other people in public places and to leave their homes only for essential reasons. katharinajej spends even more time in her apartment and makes physical contact with her immediate surroundings. She touches the wall with her hands, hugs a floor lamp, or grasps a door handle. She lingers for a long time in these moments to connect with her home. In this way, she becomes a living sculpture within her own four walls. The resulting pictorial documents draw the viewer's attention to the relationship between people and their homes. The unusually tender interaction encourages the viewer to question the existing relationship.
