16 December

A Turkish woman glances down on me from the above window as I ring the doorbell. She invites me to come in. Her son, with thick, short, black hair comes down the stairs and opens the door. I follow him up the staircase and into the apartment. In the front room, the daughter is baking cookies. They offer me a chair, still or sparkling water, a plate with two of freshly baked cookies and a kind of borek. The woman tells me they are Jehova’s Witnesses. We then talk about religion. About how we are humans after all and how little we actually differ. They want me to wrap and take away the leftovers on my plate.

My street`s my Advent calender. Today`s date is the 1st of

December 2015. I ring the doorbell at 1 Teichstraße in

order to open the first window. [German:“door“ of an Advent calendar]
